How to report problems with cycle paths and roads

With so many organisations involved in maintaining the various routes we use to get around on our bikes, it can sometimes be difficult to find out who to report a problem to. This quick reference list should help to point you in the right direction. If in doubt, contact us and we'll try to forward the problem on to the right people.

Roads (public highways) and tarmac surfaced cycle paths/shared use pavements
In Central Bedfordshire:
Email
highways@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk or report via their website. You'll have to set up a user account (its free) to do this and it is a rather complicated process so it is probably easier to email them. Remember to include detailed location information - a link to a google map is helpful - and a photograph of the problem if possible. You can also phone them on 0300 300 8049.

In Buckinghamshire:

Report problems via their website or phone them on 0845 230 2882

Public bridleways and unsurfaced cycleways
In Central Bedfordshire:
Email
rightsofway@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk or report via their website. Or you can phone them on 0300 300 8305

In Buckinghamshire:

Report problems via their website or phone them on 0845 230 2882

The canal tow path:
Email
enquiries.southeast@canalrivertrust.org.uk to report overgrown hedges, fallen trees and other issues with the tow path.

The National Cycle Network:

These are routes marked with a number in a red square. They are installed by the charity Sustrans but the local council usually has the responsibility of maintaining them, so use the contact details for the council highways listed above. You can also report problems to the local Sustrans staff. For Beds, Herts and Milton Keynes this is Peter.Bate@sustrans.org.uk and for Bucks it is Peter.challis@sustrans.org.uk
